vCard QR Codes: A Digital Business Card

You meet someone at an event, exchange cards and later try to read a tiny email address. A vCard QR code saves that typing: the other person scans it, checks your details and chooses to save the contact. Here is how to make one that is useful both on a printed card and on a phone screen.

A business card people can actually save

A QR code works well alongside your printed name and role. It lets someone copy accurate contact details without typing a phone number or email address. They stay in control: scanning does not silently add you to their address book.

No QR-ZY app is required. What happens next depends on the phone and scanner. A static vCard may open a contact preview; a dynamic QR opens a browser page with a Save contact button. Check the full process on the phones your audience uses.

Create your vCard QR code in three steps

  1. Open the vCard generator and choose Static or Dynamic. A static code can be created without registration. Dynamic creation, editing and scan analytics require an account with active Pro or Business access.
  2. Enter your first and last name, then the contact fields you want to share. Add the country code to the phone number using digits and an optional leading +, without spaces or hyphens. Start the website address with https://.
  3. Check the preview, adjust the design and download PNG, JPG, SVG or PDF. SVG is useful when scaling for print. Keep any logo small, preserve contrast, then scan a test print and check the imported contact before ordering a batch.

What to include in a vCard

First and last name are required in QR-ZY. Phone, email, company, job title and website are optional. Share a work number or public email address if the code will appear on a public poster. The examples below are illustrative.

The dynamic page can also show a photo and social links added during creation. These are not included in the direct static code. Support for photo and social fields when importing a .vcf file varies between contact apps.

Static or dynamic: decide before printing

A static vCard stores contact text in the QR pattern itself. Reading those details does not need a QR-ZY page or internet access. There is no subscription expiry for the image, but it must remain readable. Changed contact details need a new code, and QR-ZY does not count direct static scans.

A dynamic vCard opens a QR-ZY contact page over the internet. The visitor selects Save contact, opens the downloaded .vcf file if needed and confirms the import. With active Pro or Business access, you can edit the supported contact fields in your cabinet while keeping the same QR and link. Dynamic service access must remain active.

Scan analytics records scans, not the number of people who saved your contact. Updating the page also does not update a contact already saved on someone else's phone; send the new details or ask them to save the contact again.

Where to place the code

Try the back of a business card, an event badge or a stand display, with a short label such as Save my contact. For an email signature, add a clickable contact-page or website link too: someone reading the email on a phone may not have a second device available to scan it.

Treat 2–2.5 cm as a starting point for a close-range business card, not a guarantee. More contact text makes a static code denser; use more space when needed. Leave a clear margin at least four small QR squares wide on every side. Test the final size, paper and lighting; banners need a larger code.

Before you share your vCard

  • Include only details you are comfortable sharing publicly.
  • Check the phone country code, email and complete website address.
  • Keep strong contrast and a clear margin around the code.
  • Scan a final-size print on two phones and check the saved contact fields.
  • For a dynamic code, test the live page and download button, and keep service access active.
