Dynamic QR codes: what you can change after printing
Dynamic QR codes decouple the printed code from the final destination. That gives teams room to correct links, rotate offers, and measure scans without replacing physical assets.
When dynamic QR is worth it
Use dynamic QR when the code is expensive to replace or when scan behavior matters. Posters, restaurant menus, product inserts, and event signage all benefit because the destination can evolve while the visible QR stays the same.
Static QR still works for low-risk personal use, quick drafts, and destinations that are guaranteed to stay live.
What to check before updating a destination
Make sure the new destination is live, mobile-friendly, and aligned with the call to action printed near the QR. If a poster promises a menu, the scan should not land on a generic homepage.
After saving the new destination, scan the existing printed QR from a phone and confirm the redirect path works end to end.
- Confirm the replacement URL is valid and public.
- Keep the printed promise and landing page aligned.
- Review scan analytics after the change to spot broken campaign traffic.
